The usage of
Contract or Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) by pharmaceutical companies,
biotech and alike is expected to grow continuously. More and more services are,
depending on the size of the company, outsourced. For instance since not all
aspects of clinical trials can be covered or there is a lack of resources or
maybe in expertise in some areas. There are so many Clinical Research
Organizations around to outsource to, so what’s important in selecting the
right one?
Certainly, the
quality of the work as witnessed by others in the therapeutic area of interest
is an important criterion. It is common sense that there has to be a feeling of
understanding; a good feeling that the cooperation will work. Collaboration
usually lasts long and significant sums of money are involved, thus the
approach, the values and the work ethics should be similar between the sponsor
and the CRO.
Combining
in-house expertise with the knowledge of the sites in each country will provide
valuable information in order to make a clinical project successful. Problem
solving capabilities of a contract research organization are generally enhanced
if an organization and the CRO’s team have a good team spirit and exhibit low
staff turnover.
